Askrigg & Bainbridge Junior FC - Fixtures and Match Reports
Bellerby U12 Tournament - 7th October 2001
Two Askrigg teams were entered in the U12 5-a-side tournament. There was a total of ten teams, split into two leagues of five; the winners meeting in the final.
Askrigg A
Richard Sunter, Richard Teesdale, Robert Monk, Grant Thwaites, Matthew Hammond and Vince
The A team won 3, lost 1; finished 2nd in their group. An excellent and all round
solid team performance, losing only to Bishopdale A, who with an older and
stronger team went on to win the play off final and the tournament.
There were some very exciting games. A great fight back in the 2nd
game against 2 dales, coming from being behind to win 3-2.
Richard Sunter played exceptionally well, great pace and ball control.
Robert pulled off some crucial saves and did very well in goal, Richard Teesdale
showed some solid defending and also displayed the ability to get forward
when needed to score goals. Matthew and Grant put up a strong display in
midfield. Vince came on as sub and made his presence felt.
Askrigg B
Claire Moore, Hayden, Tom Hammond, Jake Parfitt, Mark Alderson and Robert Moore.
The B team lost all their games; but came away with a lot of experience
from which to build for next year. The average age of the team at 8/9 was
one of the youngest in the tournament.
The B team were unlucky in the first game, lost 1-0, but deserved to
win, Jake and Tom showed a lot of potential. Claire and Mark did very well.
There is a lot more running needed for 5-a-side, fitness, speed and football
skills are all essential. The 2nd game was lost 5-0 to a very big Bishopdale
team, I rated Hayden man of the match,
he made some excellent saves and had no worries about diving at
forwards feet, it could easily have been 10-0. Robert came on as sub
and got some good experience, Robert can definitely stand up for himself,
he had no worries about the age difference.
With the team losing a bit of confidence, the 3rd and 4th games
ended with big losses, but the team kept going and Hayden again
displayed some really fearless and excellent goalkeeper skills.
Thanks
Many thanks to the volunteer referees and to the people of Bellerby for
the work put into organizing the event and providing the lovely facilities.
U12 Askrigg 4-0 Bellerby B Sunday 4th November 2001
Starting line up: Robert Monk, Richard Teesdale, Grant Thwaites, Richard Sunter,
Alex Riley, Matthew Hammond, Hayden.
Subs Mark Alderson, Tom Hammond.
In the first half Askrigg played against the west wind, the young but skillful Bellerby played very well and made some good chances, Askrigg were fortunate to be one up
at half time. Dominic's team talk at half time got the lads going and they really put
on the pressure in the 2nd half. With the wind at their backs Askrigg took control and put the visitors under a lot of pressure. An excellent hat trick by the player of the match Richard Teesdale and a nice finish in the closing minute from Alex gave the home side a comfortable victory.
Thanks to Mr. Hammond for refereeing the game.
U9 Askrigg 5-2 Hawes Sunday 25th November 2001
Starting line up: Hayden, Stephen Monk, Andrew, James, Mark Alderson, Tom Hammond, Jake Parfitt, George. Subs Grant Thwaites, Daniel.
After a hesitant start for Askrigg, Hawes took the lead. Lesson here - when taking throw ins never throw the ball towards your own goal! Askrigg started to settle and got an equalizer, but Hawes then took the lead again. Time to bring on super sub Grant, Askrigg soon settled drew level at 2-2 and then took control. Great goals from Tom, Jake and Grant took the final score to a very well deserved 5-2 victory.
Well done lads!
U9 Askrigg 2-1 Bishopdale Sunday 9th December 2001
Starting line up: Hayden, Stephen Monk, Mark, Tom, Jake, George, Grant.
Sub: Daniel
Another slow start for Askrigg saw Bishopdale put on the pressure. HT 0-0. The
second half and Bishopdale go ahead. A switch of keeper, Grant suffering from
a cold, dropped back into goal. Dan came on from the bench and Hayden took the
lead in attack and Askrigg started to turn on the pressure. The equalizer finally
found the net after a good effort from Hayden was cleared off the line, quick
thinking Tom was there for the rebound.
With the clock ticking and only three minutes left the home fans were really getting behind their team, Hayden again went close. Mark is having a solid game in defence, and with Jake, George and Stephen dominating the midfield, Askrigg are looking good, nice passing and creating good chances to clinch the winner. Finally with a minute to spare Tomas made the break through to score a well deserved winner! The Askrigg fans went wild with excitement.
Played 2 won 2 - well done Askrigg, a great result against a strong Bishopdale team.
U12 Askrigg 4-0 Bishopdale Sunday 9th December 2001
Starting line up: Robert Monk, Grant, Alex Riley, Richard Sunter, Richard Teesdale, Hayden, Mathew Hammond.
Sub: Paul Clarkson
There was a big crowd for this game, and the opening goal had both sets of supporters
struck down in awe. Richard Teesdale was on one of his runs up the left, the defender
forced him out wide to the corner flag, Richard turned past the defender then
with the tightest of angles he saw the goal and let fly. Bang in the top corner,
the keeper never even saw it. De finely a contender for goal of the season, wish
I had that one on film.
Just 2 months ago Bishopdale U12 team won the 5-a-side tournament at Bellerby.
Askrigg wanted revenge and kept up the pressure, Richard Sunter added a 2nd before
half time. The second half saw more of the same, a solid performance in goal from
Robert, a strong display of skill and tackling from Alex and another goal from
Richard Teesdale, yes Richard gets my vote for man of the match. Paul came on
for Hayden at the end and capped the game with the final goal to make a comfortable
4-0 score line. Great display and good all round performance Askrigg.
